PETE DELANNOY 1 | Keto eating lowers uric acid..but ketones may slow this down
presents episode 190 | Dr Pete Delannoy
NutritionwithJudy podcast

Medical establishment:
-eat certain foods, uric acid goes up
-goes into joints
This is true
“Once in joints, when high enough,
uric acid will crystalize…
gout flare in response to crystallization”
This is false

In USA: 40 to 60 + million are
hyperuricemic [excess uric acid] and NOT HAVING GOUT FLARES
So: can have high uric acid and no gout
Person having gout: mean concentration:
8.3 mg/dL
“This is top of reference range,
not outside of it”
My doctor said, ‘Your uric acid is high,
that is why you have gout’
My uric acid that day was 8.1 mg/dL

18% of gout sufferers have uric
acid between 6 and 8
14% of gout sufferers have uric
acid under 6
“I have had 2 gout flares since going
keto [4 years ago]”
When someone goes keto or carnivore
from standard American diet,
-will see rise in uric acid in circulation
-due to rapid production of ketones
[organic acids excreted by kidneys]

This backs uric acid up…
-it cannot get out by excretion
-may cause a gout flare up
-over time uric acid will begin to lower
“Had gout flare at month 4 of keto”
-it was mild
-due to BHB reducing the inflammation
