PAUL SALADINO 1 | Vitamin K1 DOES NOT EASILY CONVERT INTO CRITICAL K2…so, eat animal foods!!
presents episode 372 | Dr Paul Saladino
Nick Bare – Bare Performance podcast
Dr Paul Saladino: Considering full scope of nutrition…
vitamins & minerals:
-short chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds.
-biological polymers and oligomers, along with nucleic acids
-a peptide with more than 15 amino acids is a protein
-body protective compound
-released by body, from stomach acids, to help body deal with
physical stress, injury & damage
There are probably nutritional factors in
-blood; liver; heart; testicles
~that we don’t know about
~don’t show up on health tracker apps
Example, many apps don’t have vitamin K2
(K1 is phylloquinone, found in plant foods;
K2 is menaquinone, found in animal foods)
Rotterdam observational study: K1 vs K2…
-K2: 3 groups, low, medium, high (35micrograms/day)
-cannot draw direct causation, but
-clear that group highest in K2 had LOWEST:
~calcification of aortic valve
Vitamin K2 is only found in animal foods
“Real strong association that this vitamin
is ESSENTIAL for movement of calcium
in the body”
This flies in the face of our ‘modern paradigm’ of nutrition…
-K2 is NOT in the USDA database of nutrients!
-K1 has NO ASSOCIATION with K2….
‘Vitamin K1 showed no decrease in:
-calcification of aortic valve
-our body is not good at converting
K1 into K2
-people won’t know about it if just using
typical nutrition app
