Question: when is insulin resistance
a beneficial situation?
-physiological insulin resistance is
when it serves a healthful purpose:
to promote growth
-still insulin sensitive at other tissues
-body promotes anabolism

Physiological insulin resistance,
-accompanied by hyperinsulinemia
-mother’s body growing fat or
mammary tissue or placenta
& the fetus benefiting
-adolescent growing more than
any other time of life
In pregnancy: don’t mitigate this!
-but don’t let it go too far, could
become gestational diabetes

Physiological insulin resistance,
In healthy pregnant woman:
-glucose normal
-insulin elevated
If becomes so resistant to insulin
[genetics or diet] -now: has gestational diabetes

“Yes, physiological insulin resistance
is possible, not low carb is not it”

In adolescents…
-some tissue still respond sensitively
to insulin
-bone does not become resistant
-promotes bone growth
-defends muscle protein synthesis
